Adapt as you go

Sometimes I will have a great idea, Or I want to try a new technique or pattern or stitch. So, naturally, I jump in full steam ahead, start a project, and then realize that I definitely did not have everything planned out as well as I thought. Either short on supplies, time or not having all the right tools needed inevitably some obstacle arises. This crocheted afghan is a great example. While I love how it turned out, I definitely had to make some adjustments along the way. I started with three yarn colors thinking I had plenty to do a blanket, however I made my initial rows a bit longer than intended and so soon found myself running low on the yellow yarn with the purple not in much better shape. I then stopped at the store to get yarn thinking I for sure knew what colors I needed only to get home and realize that I didn’t. I was using some yarn given by my grandma so I was not able to match it perfectly and was now left with the decision of quitting the project or pressing on and trying to gently transition the yarn. Well clearly I decided to soldier on, and not surprising again on my lack of planning before this project had to make a few more adjustments on the way. However, when the finished blanket came together with a slight Ombre effect of the yarn color transition I am honestly not sure if I could have planned it any better at the beginning. Okay maybe the transitions between colors might have been cleaner, fewer, different however the personality that came out in the final pattern would have also been very different. This is one of my favorite parts of crafting or creating something, the happy little accidents that happen along the way.
