A Thing About Old Friends…

Old friends are like a good aged bottle of red wine… it gets better year after year.

I have had a lot of time to reflect on friends and friendships as we have been shut in our homes for the past few months.

In this day and age with so many people you meet and connections you make, people come and go and some stay in your life a long time. I believe in timing and I believe in “things happen for a reason”. Friends, too, come at a certain time in your life and they stay or leave because that is what’s supposed to happen.

That being said, I am blessed to have a few lifelong friends. Most, we have cultivated and cherished our friendships over the years but some, we have lost touch but reconnected and the friendship is stronger than ever…

It is so comforting to have old friends around who know you to the core, that you could be just yourself around them and you just get each other… no words necessary.

At the same time, if you value your friends and friendships, you must not take them for granted. It may sound like a no-brainer, but it happens all the time; friends taking each other for granted. If that is the case, perhaps it’s time to just let things be…

All things being equal, friendship is about being there for one another and give and take. No one friend should always give and no one friend should always take.

We should all cherish the friendships we are grateful for in our lives.
